Usually a “nodule” or “knot” is felt on the musle muscle and the size may vary from very small or larger than a small grape. This stressed spots in the muscle can cause a lot of pain and tightness that in certain situations can impede the person to move.

The specialist can locate a trigger point  based on a physical examination If needed the specialist may use tools such x-ray or ultrasound to  have more information before giving a diagnose.

Ultrasound to identify a trigger point is very useful and is commonly used to get a real-time imae of soft tissues including muscle, nerve, tendon, fascia, and blood vessels.

However it is important to know it usually takes 24 to 72 hours for the effects of the steroid medication to take effect and it may be up to 1 week before the maximum benefits are reached.  If you do not have pain relief from the trigger point injection, you may require oral medications or other procedures to achieve better pain relief. I pulled a muscle liftings weights in the morning and by the afternoon I wasn’t able to move my neck to the left.  I carefully drove to Dr. Patel’s office and was immediately taken care of. Dr. Patel has a great way of explaining what has occurred to cause your pain and gives you the proper understanding of what needs to be done in order to solve the problem.
